For the past 29 years, classic cars and trucks and the SHARE Foundation have been linked through a highly successful fundraiser.
Sponsored by the Downshifter’s Club of New England, this year’s Antique Classic Car Show will be held on Sunday, September 17 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Vendors are welcome (food/refreshment excluded). While pre-registration is encouraged, drive in registration for both cars ($15) and vendors ($15) is available on the day of the show. Hope to see you there! Click here to pre-register
The new location is the Freetown Historical Society, located on 1 Slab Bridge Road, Assonet.
John Remedis will once again be at the heart of this fundraiser. Remedis, otherwise known as “Johnny Angel,” is the organizer as well as the DJ who spins the entertaining tunes at this event.
As always, the classic car show will feature contests and trophies, camaraderie, nostalgia and songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s. A special bonus this year is that participants will have the chance to browse at the museum on site and discover all it has to offer, Remedis said.
He added there will be a food truck available as well as an array of vendors selling their treasures which can be anything but food or refreshments.
Although there is no entrance fee, a donation jar will be available with all proceeds benefitting SHARE.
Remedis’ involvement with SHARE goes way back, he said, recalling his friendship with the late co-founder and president, Prof. Lester Cory, who he described as “an awesome guy.”
He was drawn to help SHARE after seeing a child with disabilities benefit from its services, operating a computer via facial movements.
Remedis said he finds the people at SHARE “easy to get along with,” and likes that they offer equipment and training to children and adults with disabilities at no charge.
Helping people and causes is something he has always enjoyed doing—dating back to his career in law enforcement and continuing after retirement.
He’s also been DJ “Johnny Angel,” for several decades, performing at cruise nights, class reunions, benefits, fundraisers and more.
Phil Viall, SHARE’s executive director, praised Remedis for being such a dedicated volunteer. “John is a wonderful guy,” he said. “He’s a star supporter of SHARE who walks the walk and talks the talk.”
For his part, Remedis feels the annual fundraiser is a lot of fun for classic car enthusiasts and they have the added benefit of helping a worthy cause.
He said there is plenty of room on the grounds and people who want to show off their antique cars and trucks can register the day of the event if they haven’t pre-registered.
“Everyone loves it,” Remedis said of the fundraiser, running for nearly three decades. “It’s working out perfectly.”
